FAMILY MEDIATION – an introduction

Family mediation is for

  • People leaving relationships – whether married [or in a civil partnership] or not –and who need to sort out financial matters or parenting issues
  • Parents needing to make arrangements about residence or contact, or who need to discuss any aspect of parenting their children
Grandparents wanting contact with their grandchildren
  • Anyone who wants to issue Court proceedings for financial or children issues – application to the Court cannot be made without first considering mediation.
  • Anyone needing Legal Aid to pursue family matters through their solicitor – a full legal aid certificate will not be granted unless mediation has first been considered.

And for

  • People who want a child-centred approach to family decisions
  • People who want to work together as parents even though their relationship as a couple is over
  • People who want an amicable solution and closure - not their day in Court
  • People who want to spend their money re-housing themselves and not on paying solicitors to fight their corner
  • People who want to make informed choices, not to be told what to do
